We tried to replace our gas stove with an induction stove and failed miserably.

The following story is a bit embarrassing. I hope it can help someone out there who is equally as health-conscious, yet incompetent in home improvements, as my husband and I are. A bit of relevant background first:

  • My husband is currently dealing with moderate asthma as a result of long COVID and has to use a steroid inhaler daily. Prior to having COVID in July of 2022, he never suffered from asthma or had to use an inhaler.
  • We have a 4-year-old daughter.
  • In 2019, we purchased a new construction home from a home builder with a great reputation as a result of toxic mold in our previous home. Needless to say, we’ve been a bit paranoid about air quality ever since, even before my husband’s asthma.

Making the switch from a gas stove to an induction stove

When I read about the dangers of gas stoves in the news lately, I made an uncharacteristically quick decision to make the change from gas to induction in our home. With my husband’s asthma and our young daughter at home, this seemed like an easy choice. Articles discussing the harms of gas stove emissions specifically mention an increased incidence of asthma symptoms.
