Oh I'm so glad you noticed that book Jesus and John Wayne and that you plan to read it - it is impeccably researched and was so eye-opening for me. Some other books I've read and found to be really helpful in different ways have been The Making of Biblical Womanhood (how the subjugation of women became Gospel truth) by Beth Allison Barr and Orthodox Heretic by Peter Rollins.
